Let's talk lampshades...

How to find the right lamps and shades for your home

Hi , Happy Friday!

I hope all your weeks have gone well and are looking forward to a weekend of relaxing or renovating or whatever you might be doing!

This week I want to give you some tips on choosing lampshades…

1. What size should I go for?

This is the most asked question when it comes to pairing lampshades with lamp bases. It can be tricky to work out but I like to follow one simple rule of thumb (in most cases).

Formula: Height of Lamp = Width of Shade

Take this Pooky light as an example…

The height of the lamp is 40cm and therefore a 40cm wide lampshade looks proportionate. You can play around with 5cm here and there but it gives you a rough guide to work from.

2. What colour should I buy?

As much as I’d like to give you a straight answer here, this will entirely depend on your style preferences and what other items you have in the room. For me, lighting is a really easy (and relatively cost effective) way to introduce colour and pattern into a space without the risk of huge investment via upholstery and wall finishes. Lamps are also fantastic for renters.

3. Should I stick with plain or patterned?

Again, this will vary depending on your style preferences, but if you’re asking me based on my style, more is more. The only caveat with this is if you have an extremely busy lamp base I might be inclined to go for a plain or a very subtle pattern on the shade. You can also swap shades around in your home to mix up the look.

Remember: pick pieces you love and feel work best in your home, then you’ll like looking at them every day. It’s really that simple.

I’ve put together an edit of my favourite lamps and shades out there currently, click on the image or button below to shop.

If you’re renovating currently or in the near future, you may like to attend Decorex next week. It’s a huge trade show based at Olympia in London and showcases HEAPS of fantastic brands and suppliers. If you’re looking for inspiration for furniture, lighting, paint and much more there’s so much to see. I’m going to find new suppliers and see what’s new and upcoming in the industry. Maybe I’ll see you there?

OR maybe you’re trying to get some work done before Christmas, I know I said the C word but with Reno’s we have to think far in advance. I’d love to help you get some decisions across the line, book in via the button below.

This week has been busy, I’ve been on site for one of my new wonderful clients, we’re speaking to builders and getting quotes for the work so it’s really getting exciting. I can’t wait to share more behind the scenes with you as and when we have fun things to share.

This week I hit a major personal milestone….75,000 of you now follow me on Instagram!
