Five Tips To Choose The Right Sofa
Top tips for how to choose a sofa

Hi Interior’s Enthusiast!
Welcome back, how has it been a week already?! You’ve probably seen from Instagram that I’m drowning in boxes as I’m about to move house so stress levels are high! I hope you’ve all had a good week and are looking forward to a (fingers crossed) sunny weekend wherever you are!
This week I’m talking very specifically about how to select a key item in your home: a sofa!
So let’s go…
Five Tips To Choose The Right Sofa
Size Matters: Bigger isn't always better. Ensure your sofa fits your space comfortably, leaving room for other furniture. Aim for at least 500mm on either side for side tables and 350-400mm of walkway space around coffee tables and ottomans. Remember, a well-proportioned sofa enhances the room's overall aesthetic.
Frame Quality: Invest in a sofa with a solid wood frame for longevity. While cheaper options might use MDF or chipboard, a sturdy frame will withstand the test of time. Brands like Arlo and Jacob or Sofa.com often offer sofas with durable, solid wood frames.
Fabric Selection: Consider your lifestyle when choosing fabric. For formal living spaces or less frequented rooms, luxurious options like velvet or silk weaves can work well. However, for high-traffic areas, especially those with children or pets, opt for durable, washable fabrics. Some manufacturers offer removable, machine-washable covers for easy maintenance which I’d highly recommend - these ones from Sofa.com work well.
Cushion Composition: The filling of your sofa cushions greatly affects comfort and longevity. While foam-only cushions are affordable, they may become lumpy over time. Full goose-down filling, though luxurious, requires frequent plumping. A balanced option is a foam core with a feather wrap, offering both comfort and practicality with minimal maintenance.
Timeless Style: Choose a style that stands the test of time. Classic designs with rolled arms and a mix of fitted and loose back cushions are versatile and easy to reupholster. These traditional styles can seamlessly blend into various interior designs and offer long-term value.
