How To Light Your Home

Understand Your Natural Light

Before making any decisions on lighting, take the time to observe the natural light in your home. Notice where the sunlight comes in, how it shifts throughout the day, and how much light each room gets. This foundation is key for designing a lighting plan that enhances the natural light and creates a cohesive atmosphere.

Layer Your Light Sources

A single light source won’t cut it when creating a balanced space. Layering is key—combine overhead lights, table lamps, floor lamps, and accent lights to give depth to the room. This layered approach not only adds dimension but also allows you to adjust the lighting for different moods and activities. Don’t settle for the standard four-spotlight setup—get creative with your lighting layers!

Opt for Warm Lighting

For a comfortable, welcoming vibe, stick with bulbs no cooler than 2,700 Kelvin. Cooler lighting can make a space feel sterile and clinical, so reserve it for task areas like kitchens or offices. Warmer lighting, on the other hand, brings a cosy feel to living spaces and bedrooms.

Use Dimmers

Dimmers are a must-have for modern lighting schemes. They offer flexibility, letting you control the brightness and ambiance in each room. Whether you go with traditional dimmers or a smart lighting system that you can control via your phone, having the ability to adjust your light levels will make your home more adaptable for different occasions and times of day.

Future-Proof Your Lighting

Your lighting needs may change over time, so it’s important to future-proof your setup. Opt for dimmable lights and smart systems that can grow with your needs. This ensures that even if you want to redesign a room or change the way you use a space, your lighting will remain flexible and functional.
